Blind Date with a Bear - By Marie Mason *Review & Giveaway*

Blackwood Brothers Series | Add to Goodreads

When Quinn Blackwood thought it was time to go hunting for his mate, he couldn’t believe fate handed her to him on his very first blind date. His family thought it was an hilarious turn of events since the big bear shifter had been looking forward to sowing a few more wild oats before settling down with his one true mate. No one was laughing when Paige got the wrong idea and believed Quinn was just looking for a good time.
Paige Matthews had finally given into the cajoling of her co-worker and agreed to a blind date with the woman’s brother. Paige admired the family of bear shifters and had nursed a secret crush on the oldest Blackwood brother, Quinn, since moving to town. Even though she’d known the odds were against it, she was terribly disappointed that she wasn’t his true mate. She did however, decide to take him up on his offer of a good time, cause this good-girl craved the bear’s sweet loving.

“You’re very big.”

Oh, baby, he thought, you don’t know the half of it. Her voice was soft and sultry, something you would hear over the phone if you called a sex line. His cock stood at attention. Again. If she kept looking at him like that, she’d soon have a pretty good idea of his size. Her tongue came out to lick her lips and he thought he just might shoot his load in his pants.

“I, um, Deb, didn’t say how tall you were.”

His eyes took on a heavy-lidded look. He needed to hide the effect her voice was having on him. His pupils had no doubt dilated and the golden color of his bear was shining through the natural brown color of his eyes. A bear clawing at the surface, ready to spring into action, ready to mount this woman.

Cherish her.

He felt an unfamiliar stirring inside that had absolutely nothing to do with sex. Did you fall in love with your mate the instant you met her?

“And she didn’t say how small you were.” He grabbed his bear by the throat and yank him back. He had a suspicion she wouldn’t appreciate being slung over his shoulder and carried out of the restaurant for a night of hard, rough loving.

Instead, he needed to get to know her, show her how civilized a bear shifter could be. Then take her home for a night of hard, rough loving. The bear liked that idea. A lot.

She snorted before a smile lit up her whole face and both man and bear basked in the warmth of her expression. Before, Quinn had considered her pretty, now he could honestly say she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

“I’m far from small.”

“Everyone is small compared to me.” He held out his hand to help her from the stool and her delicate hand was lost in his. His mother had once measured his hands with her dinner plates. His finger-span had easily covered the white china and everyone had laughed. Bear shifters were supposed to be big.

“Maybe that’s why Deb thought we would be good together.” Her voice held a hint of emotion he couldn’t decipher.

“Deb knows I appreciate a beautiful woman.” He raised her chin with a finger, making sure she was looking at him before he continued. “Look, I’m a big man. You’re a curvy woman. I think that makes for a perfect combination.”

“You sure don’t pull your punches, do you?”

“Why, because I called you a curvy woman?” If she said one thing about her size, he’d take her over his knee.

“No, because you claim you’re a big man.” Her gaze fell to the bulge in his pants, the bulge she’d put there. Heat blasted him and his heart did a somersault at the spirit behind another sweet smile.

“I always tell the truth, baby,” he grinned. Now that he had her talking, she was turning out to be a little sassy. He liked that. He realized he liked a lot of things about her. He was hard pressed to pick his favorite. The full, pouty pink lips he’d love to see wrapped about his cock or the dark green eyes he wanted burning with passion as he pounded deep inside her. The sultry voice he’d soon have screaming his name as he licked her slit, making her cream all over his tongue.

Okay. He wanted this woman. Any other time he’d be cursing the fact that his big sister had found his mate on the first try and he’d never see the end of her smugness. Now, he wondered what he needed to buy her as a thank-you gift. And how to convince Paige to come home with him tonight so he could show her just how big bear shifters could really get.

Just then, her stomach growled, making him frown. Provide. Protect. The two instinctual mandates all male shifters felt for their mates. He needed to feed her. “Let’s get you fed and then we’ll discuss the particulars.”

Like will I be fucking you at your place or mine?

This novel doesn't have the most intricate of storylines but what it lacks in plot it makes up for in steamy hot erotic romance. I'm an avid fan of shifter novels in general, which some of you may already know, but Marie Mason caters to shifter fans similarly to Anya Bast and fantasy erotica. They story is sweet, short and hella sexy. I loved it!

Quinn is a typical male shifter, brawny, protective, totally gorgeous and absolutely oblivious. Paige was a wonderful leading lady slightly insecure about her body. Okay, I have to mention that this is classified as a BBW romance. I've come to understand BBW means curvaceous women but still have no idea what it EXACTLY means... >< I often find it slightly redundant because unless an author specifically states "flat stomach" I usually envision the ladies in books as pretty average woman. (The guys are another story ;] )

Anyway... the romance story is pretty typical and again the plot isn't something hugely riveting but I truly enjoyed the dynamic between Quinn and Paige. Plus I adore shifter reads so this was a bunch of fun to read. The romance was cute and the characters were a barrel of laughs. I'm pretty excited to see the who the twins end up with!

Definitely recommend if you love shifters, like me, and want a light, funny, sexy, short time filler!

Marie Mason loves romance. Writing, reading –it just depends on the time of day which she loves to do most. Having had a mydrid of unsatisfying jobs, and the gnawing, aching need to be a writer, Marie jumped head first into the world romance, without a safety net nor the ability to swim. She still works as a semi-unsatisfying and is just waiting for the day when her husband turns to her and says “Honey, when are you going to quit your job and write full time.”

Charred Heart - By Lizzy Ford *Review*

Heart of Fire - Book 1 | Add to Goodreads
| Amazon | Kobo | Nook |
For a thousand years, Chace has searched for a way to break the curse placed on him by a jilted lover. He’s a dragon shifter, one who can’t control when the magic will force him into a different form. He’s already lost everyone he ever cared about a few times over and doesn’t know how much longer he’s meant to suffer.
At his wit’s end, he makes a deal with a mysterious figure that offers him what he wants most – an end to his misery – in exchange for everything that’s his: His life, his power. His heart.
The next day, he meets Skylar, a modern day dragon slayer whose mission is to cage him – or kill him. Sexy, witty and brave, she is the yin to his yang, the woman destined to break the curse, balance his magic and make his broken heart whole.
Except it’s too late. Not only has he sealed his fate, but an innocent one-night-stand with Skylar has dragged her into the middle of a deal with the devil, one she won’t escape, if he can’t convince her that dragon shifters aren’t her enemies.
4 out of 5
I loved it! The characters are headstrong and well developed. Despite being a story about "fated" love neither of the main characters quite believes in it. They both refuse to think their destined mate/lover is someone they've just met. It's a wonderful change to the typical wham bam "we are meant to be together and totally accepting this" shifter type novel. Skylar is a slightly annoying - being unable to acknowledge when she's wrong which in turn leads to unnecessary fumbling/rescuing. Chace has an irritable tendency to have massive pity parties when usually it was his own damn fault. But even those quirks don't stop this book from being worthy of 4 star love. The plot of shifter slayers was interesting and the unexpected twist made it even more so. Be warned there is a mild cliffhanger but I don't mind because I'm excited to see where Ford takes us next in Charred Tears!

Thank you to NetGalley, Lizzy Ford and Indie Inked for the copy.

A Mate's Bite - Milly Taiden *BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY*

Sassy Mates Series -  Book 2
Mission: Don’t fall in love

After an explosive night of passion during a scenting ceremony, Karla Alves is sure she was just a one night stand for the man she'd been crushing on for years. She teased him and pleased him, and Nate hasn't been around since. Her fear of becoming clingy kept her from risking her heart and asking for more than a few hours of skin sin.

Mission: Crack her walls

She. Is. His. Nathan Wolfe marked Karla. His mate. Deeply involved in pack politics, Nate has had to stay away. When his sister warns that Karla needs him more than he thinks, he'll discover a bundle of secrets only his wolf can sniff out. But getting the woman he cares about to let down her guard may prove to be his undoing.

Mission: Embrace the bite

With Karla's wayward sister wreaking havoc and friends needing more of his time than ever, Nate will have to rearrange his priorities if he ever hopes to earn Karla's trust. But will time with her be enough? Only true love and a wolf's promise can hold together a relationship created with a bite, a scenting, and a hope for tomorrow.

Karla Alves listened to her friends’ hushed arguing—back and forth—over using the word “over.” She wanted to step in and tell them all to forget about the stupid word and remember the scenting ritual. After all, that was the whole reason they were using the stinking radio devices in the first place. The entire conversation was ridiculous, and she wished there was a mute button she could press. She peered into the woods and tugged on the ear piece.
“We are wearing frigging black spandex for you. I draw the line at painting lines on my face and hauling army gear. I am not going to end each thing I say with over,” Jordan threw in.
Thank you, Jordan. If Karla hadn’t agreed to help video the ceremony so Jordan could write a book for their friend Ellie, the only wolf shifter in the group, she’d never have thought to show up and peep into the ancient ritual.
Karla glanced down at the ceremony area. The Sexy Four—Ellie’s fine and fabulous brothers whom they all secretly loved to crush over—had just spoken to their parents before they separated and moved into the woods. Nerves and something like excitement sizzled in Karla’s blood. Great. She must be nuts if she thought being out there with the very real possibility of getting caught was exciting.
Emma barked out another radio command. That did it. She yanked the earpiece out. She was getting a migraine listening to all the orders from her friend. She loved Emma, really, she did. But she couldn’t handle any of her drill sergeant commands tonight.
Karla pushed another curl behind her ear while she ground her teeth. Her clothes were uncomfortable, and she kept stomping her feet in restlessness as if she was waiting for something big to happen.
The last time she’d felt this way, her brother Kelvin said she’d get into trouble. Sure enough, later that night, she’d had a fender-bender with a cop. Kelvin told her to stop ignoring her instincts and listen to what they said. Right now, they told her to get the heck out of there because she was in over her head. But did she listen? Oh, hell no. The excitement of seeing wolves in a mating ritual was just too enticing. Who in their right mind could turn the offer down? Obviously, this wasn’t something humans should be privy to, so her group of friends were to hide and stay quiet the entire night.
Karla had been tempted to point out all that was wrong with their plan, but she’d held back.
1. She hadn’t appreciated the black clothing request. She was hot. The damn yoga pants were from last year. They were a size too small and cut off her tummy, giving her a muffin top. She tugged at the front of the black tank and blew air into her boobs. It was hot.
2. They hadn’t eaten first. Now she was sweaty and hungry.
3. She has a perfectly good home that she could be in. Far away from trees, dirt, and creepy noises in the dark. Oh how’d she’d love to be wearing her stars and moons pajama pants in her too cold house.
Crouched down, she glanced at the ceremony area. Her thoughts turned back to the Sexy Four, and particularly Nate—the man no one else had ever measured up to. Nate, with his muscular body and tribal tattoos over his arms and chest. He had enough that she could spend a full day drawing each line of them with her fingers. Nate, with his pierced ears and all the making of a bad, bad boy she should really stay away from. But she couldn’t.
She remembered the first time she’d met him at Ellie’s house. The way he’d smiled. She was never the same again. Christ. That was almost seven years back. He’d come to her rescue multiple times. She’d blown a tire once, and he’d shown up out of nowhere to fix it before she had a chance to call a tow truck. And she would never forget the time they’d gone to the masquerade ball Ellie had for one of her birthdays. That had been the very first night Karla had worn a girly dress and done her best to look pretty. Or as pretty as she could get away with. The gold medieval gown she’d borrowed from her drama class had allowed her to look the part of a beautiful princess. Nate had worn a pirate outfit. The one with his chest all bare. At the time, his hair had been longer, shaggy and tempting her to run her fingers through. The tight pants and almost wild features had played havoc with her thinking ability.
When she’d seen him, all she could think of was touching his half-naked chest, running her nails down the washboard abs, and biting a nipple that continued to peek from the white shirt. One look. That’s all it took for some kind of magic to happen. Her heart beat fast and her palms moistened with perspiration. She’d rushed away to grab a much-needed breath of fresh air. He’d followed her outside and kissed her. A single kiss under the moonlight, and she’d become infatuated with him for the rest of her college years. The memory of his firm warm lips over hers rushed blood to her head. Her lips tingled with the reminder of how much he’d turned her on.
Her infatuation with him wasn’t healthy, and it bordered on pathetic. Tired of feeling like a failure in the relationship department, tired of waiting on a man who might never be, she needed to start dating. She wanted a family of her own. She wanted a man who would be there long term. She wanted more.
3 out 5 stars
This was a great sweet and light read. The main focus was on the main characters romance so there is only a little drama so if you like lovey dovey shifter reads this is gold. I loved the banter between the girl friend group, they were witty and pretty much everything I would want in my own friends. I liked Mr. Wolfy, he definitely has charm in spades. Karla was slightly irritating with her distrust and constantly distancing herself from Nate even though he's done nothing to warrant those reactions. Thankfully she swiftly comes to her senses and their relationship can more forward. It's a typical shifter romance novel but I was definitely interested in the Emma character so I'll be keeping an eye out for her book. She seems like the bossy, assertive leading lady I fancy reading.

Hi! I'm Milly (AKA April Angel) I love to write sexy stories. They're usually either paranormal or contemporary with a large dose of heat. My paranormal stories can be anything from wolf-shifters (my favorites) to witches, demons and anything in between. My contemporaries are usually anything from soldiers to corporate romances.

I was born the prettiest part of the Caribbean known as the Dominican Republic. Currently, I live in New York City with my hubby, the bossy kiddo and our little dog "Needy Speedy". Don't ask.
When I'm not working some really long hours at the day job, or hanging out in the awful life-sucking invention known as Facebook, messaging my bestie in the UK or shopping with my sis Julie, then I can be found watching scary movies. Buuut when I'm not doing that, I'm usually writing because the voices won't shut up.
I am addicted to shoe shopping, chocolate (but who isn't, right?) and Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

Come on over and visit me! I love to meet new readers!

Bitten by Treachery - By Shawntelle Madison

Hadley Wolves - Book 2
It's not like Charly the witch wanted to betray the Hadley werewolves. Or infiltrate the pack. But it's the only way to save her mother and protect her coven from a dark evil. She's a witch in wolf's clothing - until an unfortunate bite forces her to become the one thing she detests the most.
The last time a witch came to Hadley, she almost destroyed Trenton's pack. He won't let it happen again, especially now that this lone wolf is feeling so drawn to a certain new new girl in town. Charly is the most intriguing woman he's ever met, and he wants to know all about her.
The passion between Charly and Trenton shocks them both, but can she trust him with her secret...and her heart? One thing is for certain: she has to tell him the truth soon - before it brings about the end of both Trenton and the innocent citizens of Hadley.
This book is quite short so I'm not sure if that makes it a novella. Due to the length there isn't much plot development, there is a twist but it's less shocking because you don't really know the characters. Charly seems to have the best intentions with everything she does but I can only stomach it so far. She is being blackmailed by the bitchest coven I've ever read - supposedly her family - and eventually her actions come across as a puppet following orders. Thankfully, she turns her brain on and decides to think about alternate actions but by that point it's too late to stop the evil witches.

Trenton is a doll. He's sweet, kind and generous to Charly from the get go and the pack welcomes her into their fold without hesitation. #why I love werewolves. Trenton is attracted to Charly but she apparently enchants him. I have one qualm with this because I don't feel it's ever resolved - did Charly enchant him or did they just connect as lovers? Because I sincerely thought that her magic failed and they were connected by their feelings. If you read it let me know what you thought because it's bugging me! Charly is like a battered puppy who wants to trust and love but doesn't believe it will happen. In the final scene she grows a pair and puts her spunk into overdrive however, it's right before the ending.

Overall, it's a good not great paranormal romance. I probably wont pick up the next book in the series but it was a pleasing read. At points the flow was a bit choppy, events starting without a seamless merge. But seen as it's so short I will excuse it.

Becoming Alpha - By Aileen Erin (#COYER)

Tessa McCaide has a unique talent for getting into trouble. Then again, it isn’t easy for a girl with visions to ignore what she sees. Luckily Tessa and her family are leaving California and moving halfway across the country, giving her the perfect opportunity to leave her reputation as “Freaky Tessa” behind.
But Tessa doesn’t realize that kissing the wrong guy in her new Texas town could land her in far more trouble than she ever imagined. Like being forced to attend St. Ailbe’s Academy, a secret boarding school for werewolves.
Even if the wrong guy did accidentally turn her into one of “them” and doom her to attending the weirdest high school ever, Tessa can’t help her growing attraction to the mysterious Dastien Laurent.
When vampires attack St. Alibe’s and her visions pinpoint an enemy in their midst, Tessa realizes that boy drama and her new found canine tendencies might just be the least of her problems.
I have discovered very recently the genre labelled "New Adult" which had me stumped since I started blogging this year. I was totally confused thinking is this some kind of weird adult genre or is it another form of young adult, tween fiction? I had no fucking clue. Thanks to Wikipedia I have been enlightened  - New Adult is a genre aimed specifically at 18-25 year olds. Which explains why I have suddenly found myself loving novels more mature than young adult, not as stuffy as adult novels and being unable to categorize them as either - BEHOLD THE NEW ADULT NOVEL! So why am I banging on about this right now? Because my dear readers, "Becoming Alpha" is a New Adult novel and I feel super fancy for being able to label it so! But enough of my la-dee-da nonsense - to the Bat-mobile! I mean review...
