Secret Surrender - By Priscilla West (#COYER)

Surrender Series - Book 2
“What gives you a thrill Kristen?”
I knew that giving in to Vincent Sorenson was a risk, but it was one I was willing to take. I had hidden my heart for so long and for the first time in a long time, Vincent was close to breaking down the walls.
When a trip to Vincent’s exclusive private island reveals the real Vincent underneath the layers of suave nonchalance, I thought we were close to the start of something special.
Just when things were looking up for us, I would discover the one secret that Vincent never intended for me to find.

I was holding out for a bit more character development in the second book of the Surrender series. I wanted Kristen and Vincent to show me a little more substance in their relationship. Unfortunately, all I got was less conversation, less development and the same ole' sexy time.
Most of their "deep" conversations were just conversex - conversation during or immediately after sex lacking in emotional depth. With book two I have found this relationship less believable and real. There is no connection outside of sex and their obvious chemistry. Call me crazy but even within all the fantasy and imaginary splendor of a novel I want to believe that these people and this relationship can exist. Kristen and Vincent just don't ring the bell, they reek of shallow, sex only, unbelievable, I love you but I don't know why fairy tale pomp. Even putting their relationship aside Kristen once again gets on my nerves. She jumps to conclusions about the stupidest thing and was completely unreasonable. She didn't strike me in the first book as a drama queen and yet I was shaking my head thinking  "idiot diva" as she stormed out of the restaurant. The Kristen I believed her to be would have parked her ass and asked Vincent whether or not he was cheating on her like a grown woman but that Kristen has sadly vanished. The only part I enjoyed was the brief weekend on an island - which was mainly sex on the beach...

By the end I felt like I'd spent no time with the characters and the plot hadn't moved any further than where we were left in the last book. Even though it's a novella, it should have developed something. I give it two stars - only because West writes a mean sex scene. Third time's a charm?
